description The research will get to know the perception and identify the adaptation strategies that the inhabitants of the communities and the populations of Ilincho and Lagunas located in the Saraguro cantón, Loja province have implemented to mitigate the effects of climate variability; as well as, it makes a contrast between the perception information and the data of the climatic series provided by INAMHI and NASA. The research had a combination of qualitative (semi-structured interviews) and quantitative (meteorological data) methods and was distributed in four phases: i) collection of secondary information, ii) approach with key actors and application of semi-structured interviews, iii) se carried out the systematization of the information, as well as the arrangement of the meteorological information, and iv) information analysis. As a result, it was found that 100 % of those interviewed are aware of climatic variations, especially in the last five years (2015-2020). Likewise, people assured that currently the rainfall is stronger and the temperatures are higher, which causes an increase in the loss of crops and crops, the disease or death of animals, the loss of vegetation and wildlife, the deterioration of human health, among others. However, the actions that have been implemented to prevent the repetition of this reality are scarce or null, since they assure that "there has never been an attempt to implement actions" "nothing can be done against nature", or "it is divine punishment"; these last two statements are given by older adults who have deeply rooted their religious beliefs; This shows that people have a high degree of perception, but a low capacity to adapt. Comparison of meteorological information and perception show a close relationship between the two, especially on a monthly basis. Keywords: Perception, adaptation strategies, climate variability, climate change, Andean communities.

Comparison of meteorological information and perception show a close relationship between the two, especially on a monthly basis. Keywords: Perception, adaptation strategies, climate variability, climate change, Andean communities.
