| Summary: | Pressure ulcers are lesions in the skin and underlying tissue, generally present on bony prominences, due to continuous pressure and shearing; they are a potential problem in hospital services. Therefore, the present systematic scoping review was proposed with the objective of determining the prevalence of pressure ulcers in hospitalized patients. The protocol was constructed based on the PRISMA ScR guidelines and JBI manuals, in addition, the descriptors in health sciences were used: prevalence AND pressure ulcer AND bedridden persons; these were inserted in databases: PubMed, LILACS and Scielo. The results showed a prevalence proportion of 28.97 in the fixed effects model and on the other hand, the random effects model found that the prevalence proportion of pressure ulcers in the 12 included studies was 23.74% in both hospitalized men and women, likewise, the most representative age group of suffering from pressure ulcers are adults and older adults, in terms of classification, grade one and two are the most frequent in the intensive care unit areas, followed by surgery. It was concluded that pressure ulcers have been and continue to be an important public health problem, since it is evident especially in those patients who have a long hospital stay and there are some patient conditions that can contribute to their prevalence. As well as there are areas of the body that are mostly compromised and the degrees of involvement in which PPUs occur are variable and are also related to the care provided by health professionals |
