Samenvatting:Neonatal jaundice is common globally and widely varies among people of different countries level, is one of the most common clinical phenomena in the neonatal period and is the most common cause of hospitalization in rooms neonatal care during the first two weeks of life. The overall objective was: To determine jaundice and its relationship with serum bilirubin levels in infants of mothers hospitalized in the area of Gynecology - Obstetrics. It was a descriptive study, prospective, observational and cross-sectional, 70 children hospitalized mothers studied in the living rooming, the same people who met the inclusion criteria, the instrument used was the interview the same that mothers and direct observation each neonate was applied, the following results were achieved 67% of newborns had jaundice to the zone of kramer 1, which according to medical criteria were not performed serum bilirubin, while zone 2 were made to obtain them bilirubin values (7, 68 to 8.70 mg / dl) in 14%, and 19% represents the zone 3 values (8.00 to 16.75), in 94% of neonatal jaundice appeared between 25 to 48 hours of life, by 6% within 24 hours and the action to take was the observation of the neonate at 67% in area rooming contributing to zone 1 and the remaining 33% percentage corresponding to the zone 2 and 3 with serum from 8.70 to 16.75 mg / dl bilirubin they entered the Neonatology Service.
