The specific objectives set out in this research allowed establishing theoretical and methodological foundations, which allowed to know the issues of social networks and the effects they produce in the educational process of the students of the first year of the Baccalaureate of the Educational Unit "Professor Virgilio Abarca Montesinos "of the Urdaneta Parish, of the Saraguro canton. In relation to the methodology used the scientific method and its complementary methods such as inductive, deductive, analytical and synthetic, in the same way it applied techniques such as the interview and the survey itself that served to know and detail the problem of inadequate use of social networks, their causes and consequences, being the students the main affected by this problem. The population that is investigated is 76 students, 73 fathers and mothers and 17 teachers of first baccalaureate A, B and C of the Educational Unit "Professor Virgilio Abarca Montesinos". 5 Among the main findings of the research, we could witness the use of social networks in the students surveyed as a whole and that these directly affect them, becoming an addiction causing many times they are exposed to risks such as stealing their identity, adopt negative behaviors, observe inappropriate content for their age, being aware of their social networks for several hours causes little participation in class because it limits their attention and does not allow them to perform adequately, resulting in low performance. In this context, it is very important to highlight the participation of the Social Worker in orientation and training for the safe and responsible use of social networks through a proposal for social intervention.
