Resumo:The neonatal jaundice is a common condition in newborns, due to the potential risk of bilirubin toxicity, these children should be monitored to identify who can develop acute hyperbilirubinemia or a bilirubin encephalopathy, the same to be valued by observation, before making any physical contact with the newborn, nowadays exist a high incidence of this pathology, which is considered as the principal cause of hospital readmission after the birth. The main objective of this research is to determine the relation between the areas of Kramer with the serum bilirubin values, and as specific objectives, identify cases of newborns with neonatal jaundice, determining the frequency of jaundice by sex and gestational age, analyzing the assessment of the Kramer scale and relate the jaundice degree according to the serum bilirubin values in newborns, for this purpose the information was obtained using the medical records of newborns, who were hospitalized, in the neonatology area of the Hospital General Isidro Ayora in the city of Loja, during the period of march – august 2015, which sample was of 80 newborns of which 43, were male with 54%, and 37 were female with the 46%, in addition it was found that 17 were preterm newborns with the 21%; 62 were full term newborns with the 78%, and only one case of a post term newborn; Additionally existed a predominance of the areas of Kramer 3 and 4 which bilirubin figures were ranged between 8 – 16 mg/dl and 10 – 18 mg/dl respectively, concluding that there is a relation between the areas of Kramer with the serum bilirubin values in 62 newborns with the 77%. Keywords: Jaundice, hiperbilirubinemia, Kramer scale.
