Резюме:Blueberry cultivation has expanded considerably due to the great demand for this fruit by consumers around the world. In addition, it is characterized by its excellent organoleptic and nutritional characteristics. There is little known about blueberry cultivation in the province of Loja, for this reason it is necessary to provide information that will help in agronomic practices for its production. To carry out a study on pruning and nitrogen fertilization, which are factors of great incidence in the vegetative and productive development of the blueberry crop. Based on this, the objective of the research work was to evaluate the effect of the application of a nitrification inhibitor and the use of pruning on fruit quality characteristics and early production of blueberry (Vaccinium corymbosum L. var. Biloxi) in the sector of La Argelia, Loja. Therefore, the trial was established under a divided plot experimental design with 4 treatments and 6 replications, the plot being the pruning factor (with and without pruning) and the subplot the nitrogen fertilization (ammonium sulfate with and without nitrification inhibitor). Morphological and physiological parameters and fruit quality characteristics were evaluated, as well as soil pH and EC. As results, it was found that pruning plus nitrogen fertilization did not show significant differences for morphological and physiological variables, except for fruit set percentage and fruit set percentage, where there was an interaction between pruning and nitrogen fertilization. Soil pH and EC showed differences in the treatments with ammonium sulfate plus nitrification inhibitor, being within the range required by the crop. In terms of yield, there were significant independent differences between the two factors with respect to the pruning treatments, which obtained 802.25 kg/ha, and the ammonium sulfate treatment, which obtained 770.79 kg/ha. Nitrogen fertilization, with NH4+, tends to increase foliar N concentration and increases yield. On the other hand, fruit weight, size, soluble solids, fruit pH and titratable acidity, pruning acted independently. Therefore, with these results it can be explained that pruning has an impact on fruit production by increasing fruit quality and improving yield.
