Özet:High blood pressure is a pathology and a risk factor for the development of other cardiovascular alterations, with the lack of knowledge constituting a causal and aggravating factor. The purpose of this study was to establish the extent and level of knowledge of high blood pressure according to age, sex, and level of education and to establish their correlation before and after an educational intervention in hypertensive patients at Loja Health Center #1. A quantitative, longitudinal study was carried out with a sample of 62 patients, mainly women, to whom the knowledge questionnaire on arterial hypertension was applied and their blood pressure values were determined according to the classification of the ISH 2020. The results showed that, prior to the educational intervention, 48% (n=30) presented a normal-high blood pressure level and 55% (n=34) showed a medium level of knowledge, mainly women and the 40-64 age group, as well as primary education level; after the planned action, 97% (n=60) reached a high level of knowledge and 48% (n=30) a normal blood pressure level, obtaining better control of their blood pressure figures. When relating the variables by calculating Chisquare with a value of 4.28, a statistically significant relationship was found with a value of p < 0.05. In conclusion, the level of knowledge of the disease influences the adequate control of high blood pressure values
