Summary: | Acute appendicitis is a common cause of acute abdomen and it is the most often surgical indication in emergency services; the diagnosis is clinical and it is supported by studies that establish parameters that group signs and symptoms together with laboratory tests to identify the disease; for that reason the study was conducted “ALVARADO SCORE AND ITS RELATIONSHIP IN THE DIAGNOSIS OF ACUTE APPENDICITIS AND THE POSTSURGICAL GRADE IN PATIENTS TREATED AT SAN VICENTE DE PAUL HOSPITAL DE PASAJE” The objectives of this research were to know the frequency of appendectomies, to determine the age and sex of the patients, to know the main clinical findings, to know the different evolutionary phases postsurgical and to determine the relationship between the Alvarado Score and the postsurgical grade of acute appendicitis in patients treated at San Vicente de Paul hospital . The study was retrospective-transversal-descriptive. The information was obtained from medical records of patients undergoing Appendectomy, with the following results: 75% (n = 165) of patients who underwent surgery for suspected acute appendicitis included all the Score Alvarado criteria; the male sex dominated with 61% (n = 101) compared to women; the most frequently acute appendicitis corresponded with the 43.63% (n = 72) to young adults aged from 21 to 30 years; clinical and surgical findings in relation to the Alvarado score show a trend towards the diagnosis of appendicitis by increasing the nominal value of the score. In conclusion of this research, based on our results, the Alvarado Score is useful as a diagnostic tool for acute appendicitis, it has an adequate predictive value, it is a simple noninvasive procedure, reliable, repeatable, and inexpensive that can be used in emergency or hospitalization areas. It can be applied in patients with abdominal pain with suspected acute appendicitis, it can serve as a guide for deciding which patients should be observed and who should be undergoing surgery; taking into account that the predictive value does not determine the developmental stage of the disease. Key words: Acute Appendicitis, Alvarado Score, Alvarado SCORE. |
