Zusammenfassung:Keywords: Liver Disease, Liver Transplantation This research work was performed in the Clinical Area (Gastroenterology Service) of Isidro Ayora and Manuel Ygnacio Monteros Hospitals in Loja City, during the period January - August 2014, for the purpose of determining the frequency of cirrhosis alcoholic and non-alcoholic etiology, compare functional status among patients with cirrhosis alcoholics and non-alcoholics, establish such functional status according to the duration of the disease by Child-Pugh scale; and determine the number of cirrhotic patients according to (Model for End Stage Liver Disease) MELD index are candidates for liver transplantation. The research is descriptive and prospective. The sample comprised a total of 60 patients, in which applied a sheet of data collection, in which clinical and laboratory information is included, so it was possible to determine the rating as Child-Pugh and MELD. After analyzing the results, it was determined that the frequency of alcoholic etiology of cirrhosis is 40%; and 60% nonalcoholic. Alcoholic patients have a more impaired functional status than non-alcoholics as assessed by Child Pugh; 54% is in class B, and 42% in class A respectively; but according to the MELD system, the functional state of alcoholic cirrhotic patients (63%); and nonalcoholics (72%), are similar, with a score in the range of 10 to 19 points. 50% of patients with 1 year of evolution, and 43.3% with up to 5 years of evolution of cirrhotic disease found in Child Pugh Class B; while 75% of those have between 5-10 years are in Class C; and those over 10 years are 50% in class A and 50% in Class B.28% of patients diagnosed with cirrhosis are candidates for liver transplantation according to the MELD score system. Based on the described, suggests that doctors responsible for the management of cirrhotic patients, determined at the time of care, functional status, through the proposed scales, to thereby optimize its management in a holistic manner.
