This study was a mixed, descriptive, cross-sectional and nonexperimental approach, involving a simple random sample of 95 patients; a form was used to collect data, which were analysed by frequency and percentage statistics presented in tables. The data obtained demonstrate that 60% of the elderly are third age and 40% are fourth age; women constitute 51.6% and men 48.4%; regarding occupation, 51.6% do not work. The most frequent pathologies of the elderly are primary essential hypertension with 14.3%, non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus with 14.3%, anaemia with 8.1%, heart failure with 6.8%, chronic renal failure with 6.2%, hypothyroidism with 5.6%, gastric ulcers with 4.3%, urinary tract infection with 4.3%, non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus with 3.7% and bacterial pneumonia with 3.7%. Socio-demographic characteristics such as age, sex and occupation were related to the main pathologies of the elderly, indicating a predominance of primary essential hypertension and non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus. La presente investigación tiene como objetivo analizar el perfil epidemiológico de adultos/as mayores hospitalizados/as en el servicio de medicina interna del Hospital General Isidro Ayora de Loja durante el periodo noviembre y diciembre del 2021 a enero y febrero del 2022, fue un estudio de enfoque mixto, descriptivo, transversal y no experimental, con una muestra aleatoria simple de 95 pacientes, se utilizó un formulario para la recolección de datos, los cuales se analizaron mediante estadísticas de frecuencia y porcentaje presentados en tablas. Los datos obtenidos demuestran que el 60% de los adultos mayores son de la tercera edad y el 40% son de cuarta edad; las mujeres representan el 51,6% y los hombres el 48,4%; con respecto a la ocupación el 51,6% no trabaja. Las patologías más frecuentes de los adultos mayores encontradas son hipertensión esencial primaria con 14,3%, diabetes mellitus no insulinodependiente con 14,3%, anemia con 8,1%, insuficiencia cardiaca con 6,8%, insuficiencia renal crónica con 6,2%, hipotiroidismo con 5,6%, ulceras gástricas con 4,3%, infección de vías urinarias con 4,3%, diabetes mellitus insulinodependiente con 3,7% y neumonía bacteriana con 3,7%. Las características sociodemográficas como edad, sexo y ocupación se relacionaron con las principales patologías de los adultos mayores, demostrando que predominan hipertensión esencial primaria y diabetes mellitus no insulinodependiente.
