| Sumari: | The present study was designed to determine the prevalence of anemia in children under the age of 5 years in the service of pediatrics of hopital Juluis Doepfner The canton Zamora. 2015, the methodology used was observational, retroespectivo descriptive, cross-sectional, bibliografico, we used the technique of direct observation with its instrument the guide of observation was applied to 91 medical histories of children admitted in the area of pediatrics. The results obtained were: that the predominant age of anemia in children and girls was less than one year (infant) with 53.85%, prevalence in males with the 54,95%, ethnicity mestizo with 78.02% and rural residence with 53.85% also found that the prevalence of anemia was 25,28% and that the type of anemia more prevalent was mild anemia with 42.86%. Within main causes of anemia were body mass index with the 74,73%, factor perinatal 45,05% and lack nutritious with the 27,47%.This motivated the author to implement a plan of intervention on the anemia in infants and children under 5 years with the aim of providing theoretical and practical knowledge that contribute to decrease the rate of prevalence of anemia through home visits, open houses, training to the personnel of the crèche lights of knowledge and mothers of families and promote the supplementation with (chispaz), eventually concludes that boys and girls between 1 and 2 years have a higher risk to suffer from anemia caused by poor eating habits and the period of Accelerated growth.
