Summary:The pre-reading is the preparation that is carried out in advance of a text since it is a previous and general reading, whose intention is to determine the main ideas of the content of a statement, boosting your imagination, activating previous knowledge, the structure and generating new knowledge in strengthening vocabulary, improving the fluency of ideas. The general objective of this work was to analyze how stories help to strengthen the development of pre-reading in high school children of the Santa Mariana de Jesús Educational Unit in the period 2022-2023. Regarding the methodology, the research design was quasi-experimental, the quantitative approach and scope of the descriptive work were also used, in addition, the inductive-deductive method was used, allowing an analysis to reach the conclusions; and the analytical-synthetic to provide relevant information and build the theoretical framework. To collect information on the variables, the observation technique was applied and as instruments the assessment scale and the test that was handled was the Reversal Test, assessing the pre-reading levels in children from five to six years old, the results obtained in the pretest determining that 8% of children found themselves apt to read while 42% were at a sufficient average level of maturity and 50% of children found themselves at a level not apt to learn to read, presenting difficulties at the time of reading. interpret the images, express their ideas, recognize similarities and differences. Reason for which, the need to apply a guide called "The wonderful world of children's stories" was seen, with the application of these activities it was possible to show an improvement in children, whose results are the following; 65% found themselves apt to read, while 23% were found to be at a medium level of maturity and 12% of children still persist who are not yet apt to learn to read. It is concluded that children's stories help the process for the initiation to reading, arousing interest in obtaining new knowledge through stories that arouse the desire to learn to read by developing their abilities such as imagination. However, work must continue on the application of these activities since the acquisition of reading occurs through a constant and long-term process.
