For the development of the study, 60 patients from the clinic area of the Isidro Ayora General Hospital in Loja City were studied, with whom the quantitative-qualitative and descriptive study was conducted, handling scientific methods such as inductive, deductive, Analytical, synthetic, supported by the use of instruments of high validity and reliability such as the questionnaire of adherence to treatment and family support and a record prepared by the researcher himself to record the type of diabetes in patients. It was evidenced that type 2 diabetes mellitus is the most prevalent in the study sample with 94%. It was also determined that 73% of patients had poor adherence to treatment, and 65% had poor family support. Based on these criteria, a psychoeducational intervention plan has been proposed aimed at improving adherence to treatment and family support.
