| Summary: | Acute Myocardial Infarction (AMI) continues to be a frequent health event and one of the main contributors to morbidity and mortality, a situation that is favored by socioeconomic disparities that lead to an increased risk of developing this pathology. The purpose of this research was to identify the risk of AMI, recognize the socioeconomic level according to sex and age groups and establish its correlation, in older adults from the Malacatos parish. It was a quantitative, cross-sectional study, with a sample of 284 individuals, for whom the nonlaboratory-based Interheart Risk Score and the Socioeconomic Level Stratification Survey of the National Institute of Statistics and Censuses (INEC) were applied. Obtaining that, 41.55 % (n=118) of older adults presented a high risk of developing AMI, this risk being more prevalent in 23.24 % (n=66) of women, especially on those aged 75 years or more. As for the socioeconomic level that prevailed is the lower middler, evidenced in 61.97% (n=176) of participants, with a predominance in 33.1% (n=94) of men, especially those aged 75 years or older. With the results obtained, it is evident that an unfavorable socioeconomic status influences in higher risk to develop AMI. The findings highlight the importance of primary and secondary prevention, with a special focus on socially disadvantaged groups |
