Gaia:This study is qualitative, descriptive and cross-sectional, had aimed to check the transmission of the main bacteria that causes tooth decay, Streptococcus mutans, by a count of units forming colonies (CFU) this bacterium, and subdivided into levels, high, medium and low, compared to the level present in the infant's mouth. Participants in the study were 45 teams thrive-son who met the criteria and inclusion and exclusion divided into three groups: G1 (0-6 months) G2 (7-12 months) G3 (13-18 months). To obtain the data, first applied a survey to mothers to then proceed with the taking of samples of saliva with a technique of swab, on the back of the tongue and inner cheek of the baby and retro molar area in the mother, the samples were placed in a Stuart medium for their correct preservation and transport. Arriving at the laboratory, samples were sown in a specific agar, Agar called mitis salivarius, were left in the incubator at 37° C for 72 hours and proceeded by a semi quantitative technique to evaluate and relate the level of Streptococcus mutans in the binomials. All data were recorded and tabulated previously by the author. The statistical analysis was performed in the SPSS program; tests that were carried out were Chi square and Anova. Can be seen that 93% of the children studied are Streptococcus mutans in mouth, while mother is 100%, the age range in which presented higher level of S. mutans was in the range of 13 to 18 months with 13% of children that registered a high level of bacteria, the most common contaminant habit developed by mothers was kissing the hands of his son , with a 93%, followed by kissing him in the mouth with a 89%, the relationship between the level of s. mutans from mother and child was 69% Concluding the Streptococcus mutans is transmitted vertically from mother to child, and the bacteria increases with the age of the child.
