| Riassunto: | Caprine arthritis encephalitis (AEC) is a notifiable disease worldwide and of great economic importance. It is caused by a virus of the genus Lentivirus, belonging to the Retroviridae family, which infects its host for life. It damages goats of all breeds, genders, and ages, causing chronic arthritis in adults and kids it manifests as an acute neurological disease, and it also produces respiratory symptoms and indurative mastitis. It is a subclinical process and affected animals are persistent asymptomatic carriers. The objective of the present study was to test the presence of antibodies against caprine arthritis encephalitis virus (AEC) in blood serum samples of goats of all ages, through indirect Elisa in the parish of Limones, Zapotillo canton, Loja province, and to identify associated factors that determine its presence. One hundred blood samples were collected from goats and processed by serology using indirect ELISA. To identify potential risk factors for infection, an epidemiological survey of all goat farmers was carried out, which allowed obtaining the necessary information for analysis. Five percent (5/100) of the goat population studied were positive for caprine encephalitis arthritis virus. The associated risk factors such as age, sex, management characteristics, reproduction, veterinary assistance, type of feeding, type of facilities, biosecurity measures, and clinical signs related to the disease, did not find a statistically significant association p>0.05 that would allow establishing a relationship between the presence of CET and risk factors. In conclusion, in the Limones parish there is a relatively low presence of caprine encephalitis arthritis which, being a notifiable disease, the health control authorities such as AGROCALIDAD should determine the actions to be taken. |
