| Résumé: | The construction industry is a key sector in the development of the country's economy; however, it is one of the most sensitive due to the risks it faces and the complexity of the processes it must manage, which must be carried out through activities carefully executed by personnel committed to each company in the sector. Thus, the objective of this research is to evaluate insurance management in the construction industry in the city of Loja. The methodology used followed a mixed approach, with an exploratory scope at the beginning, since the survey technique was applied to thirty construction companies that participated in the study and provided information on the administration of the processes related to the contracting of insurance and risk coverage; At the same time, these companies were characterized financially according to the information taken from the Superintendence of Companies, Securities and Insurance, in this case information from 61 active construction companies that presented financial statements as of 2023 was used; to complement the research, the activities of the main insurance companies in the city of Loja were characterized, since they are the institutions that issue the policies and therefore institutions closely related to the construction sector. The results show that the main barriers faced by construction companies are due to errors in the preparation of schedules, delays in their approval by the construction supervisor due to inconsistencies in their items and lack of coordination within the company's own personnel; all of this influences the renewal of contractual insurance policies, which is carried out over the original value, causing cost overruns within the projects. It is concluded that efficient policy management starts with the planning and correct execution of the activities related to all the coverage processes it maintains, and the commitment of those involved in carrying out these processes efficiently within the established time frame and without errors. |
