Shrnutí:Traditional medicine today continues top lay an inportant role in health care. In our country, especially in the province of Loja, the practice of traditional medicine has not disappeared, being applied to the treatment of different pathologies. Frequently, for de treatment of intestinal parasitism; as it is one of the main public health problems that most often affects children of school age. Against this bacground, the objetive of this research was to determine the therapeutic effect of albendazole and paico in the management of ascaridiasis and giardiasis in schoolchildren of the parish San Lucas of Loja canton; for this purpose, a quantitative, descriptive, transversal and quasi experimental estudy was carried out on 172 children between the ages of 5 and 12 years enrolled and regularly attending the Carchi and Maximo Rodriguez schools. By non-probabilistic sampling at the convenience of investigator, prior informed consent signed by each of the children’s representatives, a stool testing was conducted to each of the schoolchildren in the simple to identify those presenting the types of parasites study. Once the requirement was met, they were divided into two groups; to the first group belonged those parasitized with ascaris lumbricoides and to the second group those who presented giardiasis, half of each group was given albendazole and the remaining paico. For the staticial analysis, tables drawn up in the IBM SPSS STATISTICS program were used, this revealed that according to age and sex, these parasities predomínate in schoolchildren age 11 to 12 with a total of 23 casos representing 40,35%; in terms of sex, the predominance of ascaridiasis and giardiasis is present in girls with a figure of 30 cases equivalent to 50,85 %. In terms of efficacy, albendazole treatment was effective for giardiasis in its entirety, while for ascaridiasis it was effective by 80 %. For paico, it was effective in 75 % cases of giardiasis, for ascaridiasis its efficacy reached 70 %. Key words: Efficacy, parasitosis, traditional medicine, western medicine.
