The serum determination is carried oud by the enzymatic colorimetric methods and action exchange respectively in the sample of blood. Were found high baseline glucose in 5% of the population and the normal hemoglobin glycosylated with values; was identified the risk factors associated with diabetes mellitus type 2 such as: the age, family history, smoking, alcohol consumption, physical inactivity, diseases related to the development of diabetes, in addition diet rich in carbohydrates and fats, was able to establish a relationship between the risk factors and the altered levels of glucose, the group would be more affected was the 56-65 years, in addition the same presented family history, consume alcoholic beverages, do not carry out physical activity, a diet rich in fats and carbohydrates, and suffer from hypertension and disease related to the diabetes. It is for this reason that it should continue to do this type of study, taking into account the results of this research as a basis for the development of future research in this field, working with the largest number of people in the study group for best results, in order to solve problems in health public. Keywords: basal glucose, glycosylated hemoglobin; Diabetes mellitus type 2; risk factors.La diabetes mellitus es una enfermedad crónica metabólica que deriva en un nivel inapropiadamente elevado de glucemia, teniendo además alteraciones en el metabolismo de grasas y proteínas, es por ello que se planteó el presente estudio con lo cual se pretendió cuantificar los valores séricos de glucosa basal y hemoglobina glicosilada; identificar los factores de riesgo que conllevan al desarrollo de la diabetes mellitus tipo 2 y además relacionar los valores de glucosa y hemoglobina glicosilada con los factores de riesgo, a través de un estudio descriptivo de corte transversal, con una muestra de 64 personas que cumplieron con los criterios de inclusión. La determinación sérica se la realizó por los métodos enzimático colorimétrico e intercambio catiónico respectivamente en las muestras de sangre. Se encontró glucosa basal elevada en un 5% de la población y la hemoglobina glicosilada con valores normales; se identificó los factores de riesgo asociados a la diabetes mellitus tipo II tales como: la edad, antecedentes familiares, hábito de fumar, consumo de alcohol, inactividad física, enfermedades relacionadas con el desarrollo de diabetes, además dieta rica en carbohidratos y grasas. Se pudo establecer una relación entre los factores de riesgo y los valores alterados de glucosa, el grupo etario más afectado fue el de 56-65 años, además, los mismos presentaron antecedentes familiares, consumen bebidas alcohólicas, no realizan actividad física, una dieta rica en grasas y carbohidratos, y padecen de hipertensión arterial como enfermedad relacionada a la diabetes.
