| description | This research descriptive, cross sectional, in order to: Identify the biological and psychosocial factors in the onset of depressive symptoms in patients poisoned by various substances with suicidal purposes; and Develop an information leaflet about the management of patients with attempted suicide, knowing its causes and complications to get proper guidance and treatment directed toward medical and paramedical staff of Isidro Ayora Hospital, through the application of an interview on the Hospital mentioned between the months of June and November 2013, 15 cases of acute poisoning with suicidal purposes were studied, observing that the male population was higher than the female by a ratio of 2:1 and that the main cause was heartbreak (67%), prioritizing psychosocial factors over biological, also, the persistence of depressive symptoms was evident after the emergency is over, so it is important to seek deeper into the origins of depression and fully treat the patient as far as possible to achieve reintegrate into society. La presente investigación de tipo descriptivo, de corte transversal, con los objetivos de: Identificar los factores biológicos y psicosociales que intervienen en la instauración de un cuadro depresivo en pacientes intoxicados por varias sustancias con finalidades suicidas; y Elaborar un tríptico informativo acerca del manejo del paciente con intento de suicidio, conociendo sus causas y complicaciones para llegar a su correcta orientación y tratamiento, dirigido al personal médico y paramédico del Hospital Isidro Ayora, mediante la aplicación de una entrevista en el mencionado Hospital, entre los meses de Junio y Noviembre del año 2013, se estudiaron 15 casos de intoxicaciones agudas con finalidades suicidas, observándose que la población masculina era mayor que la femenina en una relación de 2:1 y su principal causa fueron las decepciones amorosas (67%), primando por lo tanto, los factores psicosociales por sobre los biológicos, así mismo, se evidenció la persistencia de sintomatología depresiva luego de superada la emergencia, por lo que es importante que se recabe profundamente en los orígenes de la depresión y de esta manera tratar integralmente al paciente para lograr en lo posible reintegrarlo a la sociedad.
