الملخص: | This research was conducted in the Southern Region of Ecuador in the province of Loja, in two priority watersheds of Canton Loja, El Carmen 1 (reference) and Monica (intervened). To get a broader view of how is the the functioning of the watersheds evaluated, calculating some morphometric parameters was performed an analysis of biophysical information using secondary information. The main objective of this research was to evaluate the availability of benthic organic matter (OM) in heterotrophic degraded and reference streams for this sampling was conducted in two sections of 100 m in length, each watershed evaluated (in the watershed El Carmen 1: Espumos and El Carmen 1 and in the watershed Monica: Santa Urco and Monica). More than that, a survey that allowed us to know the areas of degradation or erosion and aggradation or accumulation over a period of eight months (between the first and second uprising) and related it with the retention of OM in the channels of the sections selected The results obtained showed that the watershed Monica presented OM equal availability of stone and gravel sampled, but decreases in sediment. Generally, this watershed has reduced availability of benthic OM in its three substrates. Change in emerging substrates composed shaped rocks and patches of palisades dams in the watershed El Carmen 1 generated the formation of obstacles and backwaters, increasing the availability of benthic OM sampled in gravel and sediment. Finally, the relationship of the physical structure of the channels with the OM was clear in the stretch Monica and Santa Urco there was more degraded area and less retained OM in the categories of leaves, branches and trunks (30 and 17 points respectively), whereas in the section El Carmen 1 existed more gratified area and greater retained OM in the same categories (51 units), contrary to Espumos there was more eroded area (relative to the cumulative) and larger leaves, branches and trunks retained (52 units) this was because more retentive structures despite erosion occurred. Key words: watershed of reference and intervened, biophysical characterization, benthic organic matter, physical structure of channels. |
