| Özet: | At the global level, the Human Development Index (HDI) has increased considerably by 22% since 1990. Despite the fact that, in less developed countries, the increase in the HDI has been approximately 51%. However, the population's access to better living conditions still varies between countries due to their differences in education, health, and income (PNUD, 2020). In this context, the objective of the research focused on examining the incidence of public social spending on the Human Development Index of 105 countries during 1995-2019. Data was collected from the World Bank Development Indicators (2020) and PNUD (2020). Generalized Least Squares (GLS) was used as an economical panel data process. The results revealed that social spending is directly related to the HDI globally and in low-income countries. Likewise, inflation and FDI did not show significance on the HDI. On the other hand, population growth and unemployment revealed an inverse relationship with the HDI throughout the data panel. With these results, it is recommended that policy makers should progressively increase social spending in all countries. It even raises the implementation of literacy programs in sectors with a low educational level to enhance the development of skills. |
