Opis
Izvleček:Psychological distress is not classified as a psychopathological entity, however, it can be triggered by subjective manifestations, reactions or sudden changes in the daily life of primary caregivers, who are almost presenting affection in their physical and psychological well-being. Therefore, it is important to study resilience in the daily life of those who show clinical manifestations in the face of a problematic event, in order to avoid inadequate coping with the adversities of caring for a person with a disability. The objective of this investigation was to determine the relationship between psychological distress and resilience in primary caregivers of people with disabilities in Loja city. A non-experimental design of correlational, exploratory and descriptive type was used for the execution of the study, as well as a quantitative approach of cross-sectional and field study with the participation of 73 caregivers who were evaluated through the application of the Symptom Inventory SCL-90-R and the Wagnild and Young Resilience Scale. Regarding to the results obtained, it is evident that the caregivers didn't present psychological distress in a higher percentage, however, there are low levels of resilience since a low positive correlation of 0.235 between the variables is significant; also based on those results, a psychological prevention plan was designed for primary caregivers in order to reduce the risk of psychological distress and strengthen the level of resilience. In conclusion, this investigation showed that, despite to there is no risk of psychological distress, it is important to take care of the mental health of primary caregivers and to strengthen their resilience in the care of a person with disability
