Riassunto:The purpose of this research paperwork is to design an automated irrigation system for the "San Andres" farm, located in Catamayo canton, property of the parents of the author of this thesis, to achieve this objective; the general design of the system has been composed of three stages: the agronomic design, the hydraulic design, and the programming. We conducted the agronomic design following the steps from an Irrigation Technical guide called "Let's talk about irrigation," which allowed obtaining all the necessary results to determine the initial parameters of the system. To accomplish this objective, it was necessary to undertake a soil texture analysis and an analysis of the electrical conductivity of the water in the soil laboratory and the environmental laboratory of Universidad Nacional de Loja. Another stage was the hydraulic design, in which we applied the Hazen-Williams formulas to determine in a simplified way the different hydraulic parameters of the system; we corroborated these parameters by simulating the system in the WaterCAD software, with which we met the pressure, flow, and velocity requirements. We made the program to control the irrigation system by block programming in LabVIEW software, for which we identified the inputs and outputs. In addition to the process restrictions, we also built a prototype to test how the program operated; we accompanied this program with a virtual front panel we adapted according to the basic principles of user interface design to obtain an easy-to-handle front panel with a pleasant appearance. Finally, we also presented an economic study of the project, which resulted in a non-viable project due to its high initial investment. But this investment is justified because of other top-notch factors such as subsidized loans for farmers, or the augmentation of the working capital gained.
