| 要約: | Writing is an essential component of English language acquisition, with numerous advantages for learners in both professional pursuits and efficient communication in a non-native language. Therefore, the main purpose of this research was to determine the effect of Learning Journals on the development of writing skills among superior basic education students at a public institution in Loja, school year 2023-2024. This study employed a mixed method approach, integrating both quantitative and qualitative techniques for data collection, as well as the exploratory action research design (EAR), which was divided into two phases, the exploratory phase and the action phase. The intervention was applied to a sample consisted of 25 superior basic education students, in a period of eight weeks. Furthermore, data were collected through pre-test and a post-test to determine development in writing skills, questionnaires to gather students’ perceptions, and field notes to record observations made during the intervention process. From this standpoint, the results indicated that Learning Journals had a positive influence on the writing skills of the students. The results showed that students had modest improvements in content and organization, and a significant progress in spelling. Furthermore, qualitative data indicated that students perceived Learning Journals as useful for reflecting on their knowledge and enhancing their writing abilities, specially, Dialogue Journals, given its interactive nature.
