總結:Phonological awareness is the primary development during the reading and writing stage. For that reason, the main goal was to determine how pictograms improve phonological awareness in high school children at the Manuel Agustín Cabrera Lozano school of Loja in the period 2022 – 2023. Mixed approach was used in the research. It allowed to analyze, find out and collect information, both qualitative and quantitative. The research design was quasi-experimental. The methods used were the following: Inductive-deductive, which facilitated the fulfillment of the proposed objectives; analytical-synthetic, which allowed for an individual analysis of the problem variables (phonological awareness) and the solution variable (pictograms). The technique applied was observation through the evaluation of a checklist, and finally the statistical method was used to present data and information collected through graphs. The instrument was the PECO - test for the evaluation of phonological awareness, which allowed to evaluate aspects such as: the level of phonological awareness of syllabic and phonemic type, it was used as a pre-test, to obtain initial data regarding the problem and then as a post-test in order to identify the improvements obtained after the intervention provided with the guide elaborated based on pictograms to improve phonological awareness. The results showed that in the pre-test 70% were at a very low level in the levels of identification, addition and omission, and after the intervention, the very low level was completely eliminated. Finally, it can be concluded that pictograms help to improve phonological awareness in high school children and those can be used in different areas to reduce the level of difficulties presented by the children.
