Summary:Objectives: To establish the relationship between persistent severe inflammatory cervical cytology with the squamous intraepithelial lesion (SIL) and cervical cancer; identify the incidence of SIL and risk factors and correlation colpo - histopathological of the lesions. Materials and methods: A prospective analytical study applied to 116 patients with severe inflammatory cytology in APROFE, Loja, from March to November 2013, which were subjected to colposcopy and cervical biopsy to identify premalignant lesions was performed, were also analyzed associated factors, and colpo - histological correlation. Results: The prevalence ratio was 2.05. The incidence of SIL was 59.48%. The main associated factors were: mean age of 36.2 years; clinical symptoms of vaginal discharge, pelvic pain, postcoital bad smell and dyspareunia ; early initiation of sex, multiparity, redundant prepuce of the couple and the use of hormonal contraceptives. Conclusion: The relationship between severe persistent inflammatory cervical cytology and LIE is approved.
