| Čoahkkáigeassu: | Ecuador in 2013 implemented the nutritional traffic light labeling (NTLL) of processed products, arises in response to the concern of the Pan American Health Organization and World Health Organization, whose policy was to introduce labeling in products processed in order for the population to know the nutritional meaning and use this information when selecting processed products. The objective of this research was to evaluate the use, knowledge of the NTLL and purchase preferences by Ecuadorian adolescents from the city of Zamora. A descriptive study was carried out, with a quantitative approach, observational type, where a structured survey was applied to 374 adolescents from the city of Zamora enrolled in basic higher education and high school with the prior consent of the parents and respective authorities. When evaluating the use, a difference was reported between adolescents who use 44,65 % versus those who do not use 55,35%. 73% reported that they know the NTLL, while their evaluated knowledge showed that only 54,30% have a high knowledge of the NTLL. Concluding that, of the total number of respondents, more than half do not use the nutritional traffic light when selecting a processed product, in general, adolescents have a high knowledge of the content level of nutritional quality; however, they choose to buy ultra-processed products in the bars of educational establishments |
