Resumo:Job stress is defined as a teacher's response to demands that exceed his or her ability to handle them. In the educational environment, factors such as work overload, lack of resources, poor planning, pressure to maintain high academic standards and time management contribute significantly to the occurrence of stress. These conditions, for the most part, are inherent to the school context and can generate a series of physical, emotional and psychological symptoms, such as anxiety, burnout, insomnia and other mental health problems. As a consequence, teachers not only face difficulties in their general well-being, but their work performance is also affected, which has repercussions on the quality of the education they provide. The objective of this research is to analyze the relationship between work stress and work performance in teachers of the Daniel Álvarez Burneo Educational Unit, located in Loja. Using a psychosocial approach and a sociocritical paradigm, both the causes and effects of work stress are studied, with special emphasis on its impact on the physical, mental and social health of teachers. For this purpose, mixed data collection techniques were used, such as questionnaires and interviews, which allowed the identification of common patterns between stressors and levels of academic performance of educators. The results obtained show that 72% of teachers experience some degree of stress, which has a negative influence on their productivity and wellbeing. Finally, this research proposes a set of stress prevention and management strategies aimed at creating a healthier work environment and improving the conditions in which teachers perform their work, thus contributing to quality education and a more cohesive educational community
