Description
Summary:The exploitation of stingless bees especially in warmer areas of the province of Loja, has been an activity characterized by extractive practices , ie the extraction of honey and destruction of natural nests located in the remnants of forests , in some sectors of the provinces the southern region , using traditional technology as transporting colonies housed in tree trunks to their homes and the best photo is transferred Melipona mimetica nests , rustic boxes to a volume that is not related the requirements of thermoregulation in this species. In Ecuador have not oriented research to generate knowledge and basic information of the ontogenetic development of individuals within colonies of stingless bees , as well as , the reproductive behavior of queens to succeed in artificial division ( reproduction) of these species, contributing to the conservation and restoration of their populations , which is why it was proposed to address the knowledge of the various stages of the life cycle while the reproductive behavior of the queens of the colonies of M. mimetica determine, relation to age and mating flight of the queen to the first oviposition. In the present investigation was obtained as results, the workers of Melipona mimetica build their cells on average 1.46 hours and 5.49 minutes in operculan. The Queen of M. mimetica, takes the position of 25.60 seconds, the duration of the life cycle of M. mimetica is 51 days for queens 53 days for workers and 54 days for males , likewise time from birth to flight fertilization average is 8.5 days, and the time until first oviposition was 6.5 days. Also the number of queens per colony averaged born is 8, of which only one is accepted and fertilized, and therefore oviposits .
