| Summary: | The Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) have proven to be effective tools for improving students' participation and engagement in language-related activities. But, despite their potential, it is crucial to monitor their use in order to minimise their disadvantages and maximise their educational benefits. The objective of this paper was to analyse ICT in the development of linguistic skills in primary school students; to this end, we selected as a sample population the fifth-grade class from the Unidad Educativa Fiscomisional San Juan Bautista, Resulting in a total of 2 teachers and 6 students. This research was of a qualitative, descriptive and non-experimental approach; we used the interview and observation techniques for the collection of data. The results evidenced that ICT enable not only the easy comprehension and production of texts, but also contribute to an interactive learning environment and to the promotion of the development of language skills in a more attractive and effective way; also, students do not display skills to perform language learning activities autonomously while using technology; thus reaching the conclusion that the teachers’ deficiency in preparation and motivation in this area, can slow down the language development in students. Also, through the observation, it was not possible to perceive improvements in the linguistic performance of students through the use of ICT, which led us to design an intervention proposal called "BasicPractical Manual for the use of ICT in Language Development" that seeks to optimise the use of ICT to support language development, ensuring an appropriate balance between technology and other educational activities |
