Sumario:Coffee is affected by the stagnation of production and the decrease in the number of producers, affecting the country's economy due to the decrease in the exportable quality of this product. In this context, the objective of the present research work was to determine the morphological characteristics and establish the yield of the first harvest in two production areas established with three coffee cultivars: La Argelia Experimental Station (Typica, Sarchimor and Castillo) and Zapotepamba Experimental Station (Acahua, Sarchimor and Castillo) of National University of Loja. The research began when the cultivars were 2 years and 4 months old, using a random population sampling of 6 plants for each cultivar, giving a total of 36 plants to be evaluated. To select them, a visual selection was made taking into account adequate phytosanitary conditions free of pests, diseases and no signs of virus presence, as well as no nutritional deficiencies. To determine the morphological characteristics, the IPGRI coffee descriptor was used and to establish the yield, the almond fruits and seeds of a single harvest were taken into account. The results indicate that the variables related to height, length of the branches, angle of insertion of the branches of the central axis and the color of the young leaves were the most outstanding characteristics that identify the arabica coffee cultivars under study. On the other hand, in the Experimental Station La Argelia, the Castillo cultivar is the one that presented the highest yield with 0,68 t ha-1, followed by Sarchimor with 0,44 t ha-1 and Typica with 0,40 t ha-1, highlighting that this production obtained is in kernel seeds with 12 % moisture; while, in the Zapotepamba Experimental Station this information could not be obtained because the cultivars were in the bean filling phase. Key words: Cultivars, characterization keys, morphology and yield.
