Likewise, nutritional status is the result of multiple factors, both intrinsic (genetic) and extrinsic (environmental, physical activity or unhealthy habits), the imbalance between these, conditions the person to present health problems, evidenced in their body mass index. This quantitative, cross-sectional cohort study aimed to identify eating habits, nutritional status and the relationship between the two variables in 95 elementary school children of the María Montessori school in the Malacatos parish. Before signing the informed consent form, the Krece-plus test was administered to the parents of each child. The weight and height records allowed the calculation of the body mass index (BMI), to locate the values in the growth chart of the World Health Organization, with which the nutritional status was determined, based on their location with respect to the percentiles. In reference to eating habits, it was found that 42% of school children have regular eating habits, 36.8% have good eating habits and 21% have bad eating habits. Regarding nutritional status, the majority were eutrophic with 52.6%, 31.5% overweight, 12.6% obese and 3.1% underweight. With the chi-square statistical test, there was evidence of a directly proportional relationship between the two variables. It is concluded that eating habits have a direct influence on the nutritional status of the children in this establishment
