Description
Résumé:In Ecuador, for the year 2020, labor productivity represented 9.3% due to the effects of the COVID- 19 pandemic, which had an unparalleled impact on the country's economy and labor market, due to the significant decrease in employment, causing a reduction in people's income. Therefore, the general objective of this research is to evaluate the relationship between traffic accidents and labor productivity in Ecuador during the period 2008-2020, through the use of econometric techniques, in order to propose policy recommendations to increase labor productivity. The data were extracted from the National Survey of Employment, Unemployment and Underemployment (ENEMDU), the National Transit Agency (ANT) and the Central Bank of Ecuador (BCE). Therefore, techniques such as descriptive statistics and the generalized least squares (GLS) model were used. The main results showed a negative relationship between labor productivity and traffic accidents, given the effects it causes, which affects both workers and companies. However, the other variables studied, such as GDP per capita, age and urbanization, have a positive relationship with labor productivity. Consequently, policies should focus on boosting the national economy, encouraging continuous training and the development of specific skills for workers, which will result in a significant improvement in their performance and efficiency, this approach will contribute directly to the increase of labor productivity in the country.
