Sammanfattning:In Ecuador, around 600 species belonging to the Scarabaeidae family have been recorded, of which about 220 are dung beetles of the Scarabaeinae subfamily. The purpose of this work is to study the richness and abundance of dung beetles, subfamily Scarabaeinae (Coleoptera: Scarabaeidae) and relate them to the structure of the vegetation in the areas of the El Padmi Experimental Station. Three linear transects of 250 m and 6 sampling points for each transect were placed in each vegetation cover. The study was carried out in three sampling periods, from November 2021 to January 2022. To capture the beetles, pitfall traps were used with two types of attractants, the first with human feces (coprotraps) and the second with the viscera of rotting chicken (necrotraps). For the beetle communities, the richness and abundance for each plant cover was calculated. The highest species richness was found in the Ladera Natural Forest with 15 species, while the Ribera Natural Forest was the coverage with the lowest richness with 11 species. A greater abundance of individuals was recorded in the Ladera Natural Forest (1399 individuals) and a lower number of individuals in the grassland (322 individuals). Eurysternus caribaeus was the species with the highest number of individuals in the Ladera Natural Forest and Ribera Natural Forest, while Dichotomius inachus was the most abundant species in the Pastizal. On the other hand, it was found that there is a positive relationship between the richness and abundance of beetles and variables such as the richness and abundance of flora.
