Summary:The present investigation sets out as a general objective, to determine the knowledge and attitudes about the human papillomavirus (HPV) in the parents of the girls of the José Molina school, in Machala; because at present more than 290 million women are carriers of HPV, manifesting as warts in the oral and genital area, is the main responsible for the appearance of cervical cancer, being the second most common cancer in women from less developed regions according to the WHO. In Ecuador, human papilloma virus infection causes the second cause of cancer death in women, there are risk factors such as smoking, sexual intercourse at an early age, promiscuity, multiparous women, and depression of the immune system, which increase the chances of developing the virus. The research is descriptive and cross-sectional with a quantitative approach, involving 248 parents, the information was collected through the structured interview technique, and the instrument chosen was the questionnaire. The results with respect to knowledge, it was shown that 46.8% do not know about HPV, 84.3% know their means of transmission, 77.8% do not know the clinical manifestations of the virus, and only 25, 8% know their carcinogenic complications, and it was determined that parents have good preventive attitudes towards the virus.
