| Summary: | Depression and anxiety are mental conditions that have been known for many years, they affect people regardless their age, gender, social status, economic, etc. These diseases are different, but they often occur together, they may appear in the oncological patient from the diagnosis of the disease, constituting a problem in coping and tolerance to the effects of treatment, so this research had as a general objective to determine the state of depression and anxiety in patients diagnosed with cancer at the Hospital Manuel Ygnacio Monteros-Loja. The study was descriptive, quantitative and cross-sectional, the Hamilton scale was used to assess the intensity of anxiety with a 14-item questionnaire, and the Beck depression test consisting of 21 multiple-response questions, to measure depression. It was worked with a population of 40 people, after the analysis it was determined that the majority of the population are female with 57.5%, who reside in the urban area and have a high school level, besides, they do not have family history of cancer, in which it was evidenced that the prevailing state of depression is mild depression with 45% of the population and it was identified that 47.50% of patients present a mild state of anxiety.
