Summary: | Renewable energy is considered a key factor in mitigating carbon dioxide emissions, friendly to the environment, and an essential instrument to promote economic growth. Therefore, the research entitled "Relation between renewable energy and economic growth in Latin America, during the period 1990-2015: using cointegration techniques and causality with panel data" was carried out. Whose general objective was: To determine the relation of renewable energy and economic growth of Latin America, period 1990-2015 through a descriptive econometric study using cointegration and causality techniques with data in panel, with the purpose of establishing the effect on economic growth. This study had an approach at the level of the Latin American region, for 20 economies, in addition the productive structure of the countries was considered using the Atlas method, that is, the economies were grouped in high-income countries, upper-middle-income countries and low middle-income countries. The information was taken from the World Bank database (2018). The results found in this research indicate that renewable energy has a negative impact with economic growth, however, for high-income countries it has a positive impact. The cointegration findings show that it has a stable relationship in the short and long term with economic growth, that is, they move together in the short and in the course of time. Finally, in causality it was found that there is a causal relationship in a unidirectional sense for high income countries (PIA) that ranges from gross domestic product to renewable energy. |
