| Crynodeb: | The Inter-American Court of Human Rights (hereafter IACHR) plays a crucial role in the protection of fundamental rights in Latin America. This study examines the relationship between the IACHR, the violations of the right to life and the Ecuadorian State during the period 1998-2008, which analyses the non-compliance sentences issued by this international court towards Ecuador, with the aim of identifying the reasons, patterns and consequences of this contempt through the analysis of two emblematic cases that occurred during this decade, paying special attention to the course of action ordered by the Court and the degree of compliance by the State. Likewise, this work explores the obstacles that Ecuador faced in fully implementing the decisions of the IACHR, including possible institutional, legal, political or budgetary limitations and how this situation affected the international perception of Ecuador's commitment to human rights. |
