Izvleček:This research descriptive-analytic cross-sectional observational - cohort or follow-up, it aimed to study the relationship between periodontitis during pregnancy with preterm delivery and low birth weight, obstetric patients seen in consultation Motupe University Hospital from March to July period of 2015.The universe consisted of 38 pregnant patients, treated in the month of April, which was selected as study population of 15 patients who met the proposed features, according to the inclusion criteria; to them they underwent an evaluation of hygiene and smoking history, periodontal clinical examination (PSR and Periodontal) and plaque index, of which it was determined that 9 patients had some degree of periodontitis, and 6 patients found periodontally healthy or with gingivitis.After obtaining the necessary data, monitor patients until the end of pregnancy was performed to examine whether there had been premature birth and / or low birth weight.To collect the necessary data, it carried out the analysis; by applying the statistical formula "relative risk" found that those patients with periodontitis had a higher risk of giving birth to underweight children (2.66 on this scale, corresponding to 77.7%) and before the date set (4.81 corresponding to 88.8%) than those who did not have periodontitis.
