Summary:The current project regarding the zoning of fundamental periods of the soil in the northeast of the urban limit of the city of Loja, aims to provide a contribution to studies that address seismic microzoning issues for the city, for which was used the methodology proposed by Nakamura (1989), about the measurement of ambient noise applying the H/V spectral ratio technique. From 163 vibration records it was determined that there are predominant periods between 0.11 and 2 seconds for the northeast of the city of Loja, with the longest periods found in the Motupe neighborhood, while the shorter periods are grouped in Las Pitas. On the other hand, those dominant periods could be established in a total of 62 stations. The correlation of the vibrational records with the geological characteristics allowed us to establish how these can affect the duration of a soil period, so colluvial deposits are the lithology in which the lowest vibrational frequencies were presented, contrary to the formation La Banda, which is characterized by a lithology of clayey and calcareous shales, as well as the Belén formation, which has sandstones and conglomerate lenses, where the highest vibrational frequencies occurred.
