| Sumari: | This research determined the various changes in land cover and use, through the processing of Landsat 5 (TM), 7 (ETM+) and 8 (OLI) satellite images, to establish indicators of the natural subsystem and its relationship to territorial ordering in the canton of Zapotillo, in the period 1986 - 2018, for the application of remote sensing tools. Information from the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) geographic base was collected, supplementing cartographic information with the National Information System, Military Geographic Institute and Territorial Research Center of the National University of Loja (CIT). Satellite images were subjected to corrections and highlights that in turn were used for supervised classification, the results of which were validated by Kappa statistical index to measure the concordance between observed and reality. Demonstrated natural subsystem indicators for this purpose land use change information was used, as well as algorithms and layer overlay. And three guidelines were put forward for conservation, forestry and agriculture purposes. The results obtained for forest cover show that in 1986 it occupied an area of 69,575,640 ha in 2016 decreased to 55 307,016 ha, agricultural coverage of 2 221,598 ha in 1986 increased to 5 771,081 ha in 2016. The deforestation rate has a loss of 0.76% coverage; the exchange rate has decreased by 3.33% of the forest area; the anthropic indicator increases by 5.65% in the area. This depreciation is due to the influence of anthropic activities on the occupation of territories with forest cover and vegetation, taking into account that the canton Zapotillo, continues to retain a significant percentage of natural coverage. A diagnosis of territorial planning plans for making is shown showing the situation of deficiencies and potentials of the canton Zapotillo.
