| Gaia: | Neonatal metabolic screening is a project of the Ministry of Public Health of Ecuador that helps to detect in a timely manner serious and irreversible diseases that are not evident at birth, preventing intellectual disability and early death in newborns. In the Health Center No. 3 in the city of Loja, the health staff considers that there is no good promotion or training about the program and that many parents go to the realization of the screening by suggestion of the doctor, arriving with a slight knowledge of why to perform this test to children, reason why it was proposed to evaluate the knowledge and training of health professionals working at the Health Center No. 3 on neonatal metabolic screening, as well as assessing the knowledge of parents who come to that institution and check the knowledge on the results of screening done to children. In order to achieve this purpose, a cross-sectional, prospective, analytical methodology was applied with a quantitative approach, through surveys to 18 health professionals and to 154 parents who came with newborns to perform the heel test. Identifying that 44% of professionals of health and 45% of parents do not know about the Screening Program and 100% of the parents don’t know about the results of the test done to the children, concluding that it’s necessary to improve the diffusion of results and training for parents and health professionals Key words: Neonatal Metabolic Screening, health professionals, parents, knowledge. |
