| সংক্ষিপ্ত: | Depression as it relates to diabetes greatly affects the quality of life of people, influencing mainly in their own care, it has been and remains an issue of great clinical relevance. This research aims to establish the relationship between depression and self-care of people with type 2 diabetes mellitus of the Organization "Together for Life" Motupe University Hospital; determine levels of depression and self-care practices noted; it is performed under a descriptive, cross-sectional and relational type quantitative approach; the Beck Depression Inventory and summary of diabetes self-care activities is used. The sample analyzed corresponds to the total of 40 diabetic users belonging to the community Club "Together Through Life" Motupe University Hospital, chosen according to certain criteria for inclusion. As for the results demonstrated by the chi-square, there is significant relationship between depression and inadequate diabetes self-care; 52.5% no depression and 47.5% if these the highest prevalence is moderate depression, followed by mild to severe; it is observed that both depressed and non-depressed diabetics have good practice in adherence to treatment and revision of the feet, however users have less depressed diabetics feeding practices, self-monitoring of glucose and exercise. Finally 100% of diabetics do not consume snuff users currently. It is concluded that depression directly influences the diabetes self- management participation and involvement of health professionals still needed to reduce levels of depression and promote self-care practices.
