Prevalencia de diabetes mellitus en los adultos mayores de 40 años del barrio El Remolino, ciudad de Zamora. Año 2015.

This research work was to determine the prevalence of diabetes mellitus in adults older than 40 years in the neighborhood the Maelstrom, the canton Zamora. transversal, descriptive, and bibliographic field: 2015, where the following methodological design was used. For this purpose the technique of the survey with the questionnaire instrument applied to 78 adults over 40 years Barrio El Remolino forming the total population was applied; of which 15 reported having diabetes mellitus. The results of the study were: The prevalence of 19.23%, the predominant age range 50 to 59 years with 40% female with 66.67% in its mixed ethnicity in all with 100% primary school level with 46.67%, 40% are private sector employees, most of them live with their partner and children with 46.67%. As cause is the hereditary factor with 40%, plus a high percentage of 46.67% do not exercise; most consumed food are carbohydrates with 46.88%, with respect to drinking the 93.33% reported not consuming it. Given the above the author made an intervention plan that consisted of an educational program through conferences, open house, workshops and care as glucose control. Through home visits. He concluded that the prevalence of diabetes mellitus is 19.23%, with the risk factors related physical inactivity and poor diet.
