Samenvatting: | In the present investigation the feeding behavior in extensive management of the lojana goat was studied in different altitudinal floors of the dry forest of the province of Loja. We selected the herds where the chusca goat population predominates more than 70% and they were separated geographically at a distance of 5 km; we carried out the recognition of the species consumed by the goats and their preferences using permanent plots and the method of direct observation during grazing; The results showed that in the first altitudinal level Ipomoea carnea, Mosquera Croton wagneri and Guayacán (Handroanthus chrysanthus) were found with greater predominance in the second level Mosquera Croton wagneri, Higuerón Ficus cuatrecasana, Faique (Acacia macracantha) and Guayacán (Handroanthus chrysanthus), on the third floor was Mosquera Croton wagneri , Faique Acacia macracantha and Lantana (Lantana cámara) ; In relation to preferences on the second floor, the Croton wagneri, Guayacán (Handroanthus chrysanthus) and Charán (Caesalpinia paipai) flies; the Guayacán (Handroanthus chrysanthus), Algarrobo (Prosopis juliflora) and Higuerón (Ficus cuatrecasana) flies are consumed on the second floor and the Faique (Acacia macracantha) is consumed on the second and third floors. It is concluded that certain predominant species in the dry season are preferred by goats within each altitudinal floor of the dry forest. Key words: Feeding behavior, goat, species, preference. |
