The overall objective, to determine the importance of recreational activities for improving academic performance in the area of mathematics, students in the second grade of Basic General Education, the "Miguel Riofrio No. 2" School and the respective raised Specific objectives and determine the academic performance in the area of mathematics, select models of recreational activities to improve academic performance in the area of mathematics, applied recreational activities to reduce the deficiencies found in the academic performance of students. The methodology methods, and deductive, inductive used. The technique used was a survey of teachers and students whose population was 67 the same that allowed me to know the current state of play activities used by teachers to impart their knowledge in the area of mathematics. Thus it was concluded that with 100% teachers apply the technique of the game only in the initial stage of the lesson plan, but not at the time of execution or evaluation, the largest feature underachievement in students.
