Izvleček: | The Southern Region of Ecuador has a wide range of environmental conditions determined by the environmental variation in temperature, water, light and soils. Among these factors ranging from dry forests to Andean forests, decreasing air temperature and increasing cloudiness with rising altitude, are probably ultimately responsible for limiting the growth and distribution of forests. In this sense, the identification of Functional Plant Types (FPTs) based on functional traits, provide a powerful approach for understanding the response of vegetation to environmental factors. The present research identified how the species are functionally grouped according to a set of four life history traits (LHT) and 10 attributes, associated to the establishment, permanence and dispersion phase, from 30 species of dry forest ecosystems , Amazonian Tropical Forest and Andean Forest belonging to the Southern Region of Ecuador, in order to determine which species have the potential for ecological restoration and which are the LHT that characterize them. Two functional plants types (FTP), the FTP 1 characterized as perennifolio of high stratum, zoócora and anemócora were determined and the FTP 2 was classified like deciduous of intermediate stratum, zoócora. The characteristics that characterize these groups are phenology (PHEN) and dispersion syndrome (DS). This represents the different strategies of the groups as some invest more in growth while others in reproduction. Studying functional groups based on RHV is a practical tool that allows understanding the behavior of species in a variable and disturbed environment. It was determined that species with potential to carry out restoration practices are Handroanthus chrysanthus, Maclura tinctoria, Bursera graveolens, Cedrela odorata, Grias peruviana, Terminalia amazonia, Ceiba pentandra, Iriartea deltoidea, Vismia baccifera, Alnus acuminata, Nectandra reticulata, Key words: Ecological restoration, functional groups, life history traits, Dry Forest, Amazon Rainforest, Andean Forest. |
