Lactancia materna y desnutrición infantil en menores de 2 años en la Zona 7 Salud del Ecuador

Childhood malnutrition in any of its forms currently affects 20.10% of children under 2 years of age in Ecuador. This problem affects the country's productivity and has an impact throughout people's lives; likewise, these alterations in the nutritional status of boys and girls represent a complication in public health due to the short and long-term consequences that occur. The fundamental food during this stage is breast milk, preferably exclusively. In this research the objectives were analyze breastfeeding and malnutrition indicators in children under 2 years of age in Health Zone 7 of Ecuador according to the INEC ENDI 2022-2023 survey. Characterize socio demographically and design an information strategy. An analytical-quantitative, ecological cross-sectional study was carried out in a sample of 3,275 children under 2 years of age. The findings were: the most frequent age was 12 to 23 months 56.43%, the male gender 50.92%, the mestizo ethnic group 92.13%, the urban sector 63.08% and the province of El Oro with 50.57%. Regarding chronic, global and acute malnutrition, 55.00%, 56.21% and 56.43% respectively; In addition, 35.60% started breastfeeding immediately, 40.00% did not breastfeed because the child was born sick, only 2.5% of mothers breastfed on free demand. The majority of children under 2 years of age in zone 7 have childhood malnutrition and their mothers do not breastfeed on demand.
