Based on this context, this research aimed to describe EFL preservice teachers' knowledge on lesson plan designing during their practicum, identifying strengths and weaknesses. For this purpose, the qualitative method and a case study approach were employed, analyzing the lesson plans, field notes, and reflective journals of four preservice teachers who were doing their practicum in the teacher education program at “Universidad Nacional de Loja”. Content analysis was used to evaluate the components of 16 lesson plans through a rubric and field notes. Findings revealed that lesson objectives were clear and aligned with Bloom's Taxonomy, but the ABCD format was not well implemented. Practice activities were designed to reinforce language skills, but in some cases lacked variety. Instructional materials were designed to promote participation. Finally, the assessment tasks showed alignment with the objectives. Consequently, it was concluded that the preservice teachers demonstrated strengths in designing clear objectives, effective practice activities, and interactive instructional materials. However, some of them showed weaknesses in designing objectives that were not aligned with Bloom's Taxonomy, incomplete use of the ABCD format, limited variety in practice activities, instructional materials that lacked alignment with the objectives and in the fulfillment of assessment tasks and planned lessons. Key Words: Lesson planning, EFL preservice teachers, practicum.La planificación de clases es un aspecto integral en el conocimiento y la formación de los profesores de inglés como lengua extranjera, proporcionando un marco para una instrucción efectiva en el aula. A pesar de su importancia, basado en la experiencia de la investigadora, los profesores en formación presentan algunos desafíos en el diseño de planes de clase. En este contexto, esta investigación tuvo como objetivo describir el conocimiento de los docentes en formación de inglés como lengua extranjera en el diseño de la planificación de clase durante su practicum, identificando fortalezas y debilidades. Para ello, se empleó el método cualitativo y estudio de caso, analizando las planificaciones de clase, notas de campo y diarios reflexivos de cuatro docentes en formación que realizaban su práctica en el programa de formación docente de la “Universidad Nacional de Loja”. Se utilizó el análisis de contenido para evaluar los componentes de 16 planificaciones de clase mediante una rúbrica y notas de campo. Los hallazgos revelaron que los objetivos eran claros y estaban alineados con la Taxonomía de Bloom, pero el formato ABCD no se implementó adecuadamente. Las actividades de práctica estaban diseñadas para reforzar las destrezas lingüísticas, pero en algunos casos carecían de variedad. Los materiales didácticos estaban diseñados para fomentar la participación. Finalmente, las tareas de evaluación mostraron alineación con los objetivos. En consecuencia, se concluyó que los docentes en formación demostraron fortalezas en el diseño de objetivos claros, actividades de práctica eficaces y materiales didácticos interactivos. Sin embargo, algunos de ellos mostraron debilidades en el diseño de objetivos que no estaban alineados con la Taxonomía de Bloom, uso incompleto del formato ABCD, variedad limitada en las actividades de práctica, materiales didácticos que carecían de alineación con los objetivos y en el cumplimiento de las tareas de evaluación y lecciones planificadas.
